Antonio Quintana

Antonio Quintana was a Chilean master of black and white photography. He portrayed the Chilean people. He worked as a professor of chemistry and physics for photojournalists in the journalism school in the University of Chile. He was also a political activist and member of the communist party.

His photographic work covered many photographic genres from portrait to architectural photography. He worked portraying the Chilean people. His main work was "El Rostro de Chile". In this work, he traveled along of Chile photographing all kind of peoples. He introduces the social genre in Chilean photography

I like because we can see in his work the mix of poetic and technics at the same level. His style and composition remember me the masters like Walker Evans and Ansel Adams. When I see his work, I see how He worked the light/dark, his sensitivity, and composition. He trims the reality in the decisive moment when the light intersect the shapes. Finally, I like the social connotation that involved his work, he made a visual radiography of the Chilean people.
